1. What is Doktorantura?
Doktorantura is a form of postgraduate education in Russia aimed at preparing a dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Sciences (a higher doctoral degree, distinct from a Ph.D./Candidate of Sciences). KubSMU can act as both a Sending Organization (for its own employees) and a Host Organization for doctoral students.
2. Admission Requirements for Applicants
To be eligible for the doctoral program, an applicant must:
Hold a Candidate of Sciences degree (or an equivalent recognized foreign degree).
Have at least 5 years of teaching and/or research experience.
Have at least 1 year of work experience at their sending organization.
Have a proven record of scientific achievements (list of publications in peer-reviewed journals, patents, certificates, etc.).
Submit a preliminary dissertation research plan.
3. Application Process for External Candidates
If you are applying to KubSMU as a Host Organization:
Step 1: Check for Openings
KubSMU announces available research topics and positions on its official website and in mass media. A competitive selection (contest) is held for these positions.
Step 2: Prepare Application Documents
You must submit the following package to the KubSMU admissions committee:
A formal application letter addressed to the Rector.
A letter of request/recommendation from your Sending Organization.
A copy of your Candidate of Sciences (or equivalent) diploma.
A certified list of your scientific publications.
Your dissertation preparation plan.
An extract from your work record book, confirming your professional experience.
A completed personal information form, certified by your employer.
Two 3x4 cm photographs.
A copy of your passport or other ID.
Step 3: Competitive Selection
Selection is competitive and based on scientific merit. Priority is given to candidates with:
Publications in leading peer-reviewed journals (VAK list, Scopus, Web of Science).
Patents and inventions related to the dissertation topic.
Presentations at major professional conferences.
Participation in grants, awards, and other scientific projects.
The candidate should have at least 50% of the planned dissertation work already prepared.
4. Key Features of the Program at KubSMU
Duration: The standard preparation period is up to 3 years (a shorter period can be set by contract).
Contract: A tripartite contract is signed between KubSMU, the Sending Organization, and the Doctoral Student. If the student is a KubSMU employee, the contract is between them and the university.
Scientific Consultant: The university may appoint a Doctor of Sciences as a scientific consultant to assist the student.
Individual Plan: Each doctoral student follows an individual research plan approved by the University's Academic Council.
Resources: Doctoral students have access to the university's libraries, laboratories, information resources, and equipment.
Reporting: Annual progress reports are mandatory and must be presented to the department and the Central Problem Commission.
5. Financial Support for KubSMU Employees
KubSMU employees sent to doctoral studies at another institution receive a monthly payment equal to one minimum wage.
This payment is in addition to their salary if they continue working. If they take a leave of absence for their studies, they receive this payment but not their salary.
Payments stop if the employee leaves the university.
6. Rights and Obligations of Doctoral Students
Rights:
Use all university resources and infrastructure.
Participate in university research related to their dissertation topic.
Retain all employment rights at their Sending Organization.
Obligations:
Conduct research and prepare the dissertation according to the individual plan.
Fulfill the plan in a timely manner.
Submit annual progress reports.
Fulfill all obligations outlined in the contract.
