History of the KubSMU Museum
The museum was founded in 1990 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Kuban Medical Institute named after the Red Army (now Kuban State Medical University).
The museum's exhibition and collections feature materials on the history of medicine development in the Krasnodar Krai from the second half of the 19th century to the present day. Also included are materials on the history of the establishment and development of KubSMU, from the Medical Faculty within the Kuban University (1920) to the independent Kuban State Medical Institute named after the Red Army (1925 – 1994), then the Kuban State Medical Academy (1994 – 2005), and the Kuban State Medical University (from 2005 to the present).
The main exhibition consists of materials about the work of doctors and university staff in eliminating infectious and endemic diseases in the region, and the foundation of a number of medical institutions. The history of the building itself and its complex fate is separately highlighted. And, of course, one of the most important parts of the exhibition is the history of the participation of staff, students, and graduates in the Great Patriotic War – their feats, hardships, and colossal work during evacuation. The modern chronicle of the university is also presented, including scientific works, inventions, discoveries, patents, sports achievements, and volunteer accomplishments.
We are also proud that the museum additionally serves as a study room for students in the history and philosophy courses. It also hosts tours and introductory classes for schoolchildren, meetings of youth with veterans, and other events for military-patriotic education, as well as tours for staff, students, and guests of the university.
Currently, the museum's exhibition features more than eight hundred exhibits, and the collections currently preserve more than one and a half thousand items from the main and scientific-auxiliary funds.
From 2000 to 2019, the museum was headed by Associate Professor, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Chairman of the KubSMU Veterans Council Alla Grigoryevna Koval'skaya, who contributed greatly to the replenishment and preservation of the museum's collections.
From 2019 to 2024, the museum was headed by Ekaterina Leonidovna Nikulina, a graduate of the Kuban Medical Institute named after the Red Army. She continued the work of her predecessor in preserving the collection and improving the museum's facilities.
At the end of 2024, Mariya Alekseevna Yurchenko was appointed as the head of the museum. She is a graduate of the History Faculty of Kuban State University and an assistant at the Department of Philosophy of Kuban State Medical University.
