The Department of Cardiac Surgery and Cardiology of the Faculty of Education and Training was founded in 2007.The need to create the department was dictated by the need for synergistic training of highly qualified cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons, since it is the pathology of the heart and blood vessels that is the main cause of mortality in our country and the world.Joint training allows cardiologists to master invasive interventional methods of diagnosis and treatment, and surgeons to learn the intricacies of conservative treatment of diseases of the cardiovascular system.
Since its founding, the staff of the department has been headed by Kirill Olegovich Barbuhatti – Doctor of Medical Sciences, chief cardiac surgeon of the Krasnodar region, head of the department of cardiac surgery No. 2 of the State Budgetary Institution “Research Institute – Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1 named after.Professor S.V.Ochapovsky” Ministry of Health of the Krasnodar Territory.
The department’s staff is represented by leading experts in the field of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery, including: Professor Doctor of Medical Sciences Hovik Armenovich Alukhanyan;Doctor of Medical Sciences Alexey Nikolaevich Fedorchenko – Head of the Department of X-ray Surgical Methods of Diagnostics and Treatment of the State Budgetary Institution “Research Institute – KKB No. 1 named after.prof.S.V.Ochapovsky”, Ph.D.M.L.Kandinsky – Head of the Department of Surgical Treatment of Complex Heart Rhythm Disorders and Electrocardiostimulation of the State Budgetary Healthcare Institution “Research Institute – KKB No. 1 named after.prof.S.V.Ochapovsky”, Yu.N.Gorozhantsev – Head of the Department of Functional Diagnostics of the State Budgetary Institution “Research Institute – KKB No. 1 named after.prof.S.V.Ochapovsky”, Ph.D.I.A.Shelestova – Deputy Chief Physician for the outpatient section of the work of the State Budgetary Institution “Research Institute – KKB No. 1 named after.prof.S.V.Ochapovsky”, Ph.D.O.V.Babicheva, Ph.D.D.S.Aristov, Doctor of Medical SciencesS.Yu.Boldyrev, Ph.D.S.A.Belash, Ph.D.A.P.Bogdan, Ph.D.O.V.Kurgansky, I.A.Belan.
The department’s scientific interests are concentrated in the treatment of extremely high-risk cardiac surgical patients, studying the problems of heart transplantation, surgical treatment of acute coronary syndrome, myocardial revascularization in diffuse atherosclerosis, surgical treatment of pathology of the ascending aorta, chronic venous insufficiency, revascularization arteries of the lower extremities. The department maintains a register of acute aortic syndrome.Research results are presented at national, regional, and international conferences and published in leading scientific journals.
During the existence of the department, the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences was awarded to eight young scientists, and one dissertation was defended for the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences.Active training of young scientists is being carried out in graduate school in the specialty of cardiovascular surgery.
Personnel for practical healthcare are trained in clinical residency and advanced training courses for doctors in the specialties of cardiovascular surgery and cardiology. In training, the main emphasis is on real practical work with the most complex patient population.
Clinical residents and cadets have the opportunity to study at the department’s clinical bases, which are leading medical institutions in the Krasnodar region.Department of Cardiac Surgery No. 2 of the State Budgetary Institution “Research Institute – Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1 named after.Professor S.V.Ochapovsky” Ministry of Health of the Krasnodar Territory since the early 2000s.occupies a leading position in the country in the main areas of cardiac surgical care to the population: 3rd place in the number of operations using artificial circulation, 3rd place in the number of coronary bypass operations, 2nd place in the number of operations on heart valves, 2nd place in the number of heart transplants.Since 2010, the department has provided transplant care to the population of the Krasnodar region.Such operations have a high degree of complexity and require the use of the most modern medical technologies.
Students majoring in cardiology are directly involved in the examination and treatment of patients with cardiovascular pathology.Preoperative diagnosis, selection and preparation of patients for any type of cardiac surgery: from coronary artery bypass grafting and heart valve replacement to reconstructive surgery on the aorta and endovascular treatment methods (balloon angioplasty and implantation of intravascular prostheses – stents, electrophysiological interventions).Gain experience in treating patients in the acute period of myocardial infarction, who receive high-tech emergency and planned care.Cadets have the opportunity to become familiar with the features of selection, examination, preoperative preparation of patients before heart transplantation, as well as treatment, rehabilitation and monitoring of patients after heart transplantation.
The basics of vascular surgery are taught at the bases of the departments of vascular surgery of the State Budgetary Healthcare Institution “Research Institute – Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1 named after.Professor S.V.Ochapovsky”, State Budgetary Institution “Regional Clinical Hospital No. 2”, State Budgetary Institution “City Clinical Hospital No. 3”.Collectively, the departments perform more than 4,000 operations annually (of which about 1,500 are arterial reconstructions, more than 200 microsurgical operations, and replantations of limb segments from 5 to 15).Cadets and residents have the opportunity to learn from Russian leaders in the number of reconstructive arterial operations performed, the number of operations on the carotid arteries and aorta, operations for ruptured aortic aneurysms and trauma to the great vessels.Trainees are introduced to the features of operations that require the use of microvascular technology (using a surgical microscope, special instruments and ultra-thin suture material): restoration of complete and incomplete separation of limbs and their segments, immediate replacement of wound defects of any size and location, muscle and bone defects using microvascular autotransplantation methods tissue complexes.
The teaching staff of the department is represented by young, energetic specialists in their field. The faculty team looks to the future with confidence and is ready to train healthcare personnel at the level of leading world standards.
