The Department of Balneology and Physiotherapy (this is its original name) was created by order of the Ministry of Health No. 696 of December 4, 1987 on the basis of the Sochi Research Institute of Balneology and Physiotherapy at the request of the leadership of Sochi.The management of the Kuban State Medical Institute played a major role in organizing the work and forming the department.The first head of the department at that time was the director of the Sochi Research Institute of Balneology and Physiotherapy, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor T.V.Khutiev.From January 1993 to the present, the department is located on the basis of the Federal State Institution “Central Clinical Sanatorium named after.F.E.Dzerzhinsky FSB of Russia” in Sochi.The head of the department is Anatoly Timofeevich Bykov, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, laureate of the Russian Government Prize in the field of science and technology.Professor A.T.Bykov is the author of over 267 scientific papers, dozens of books and monographs devoted to modern technologies of restorative medicine.Under his leadership, 18 candidate and 11 doctoral dissertations were defended.The department employs Taimuraz Vladimirovich Khutiev (Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor), Leonid Sergeevich Khodasevich (Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor), Kirill Vladislavovich Gordon (Doctor of Medical Sciences), Larisa Petrovna Melnichuk (Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor), Andrey Vladimirovich Chernyshev (Candidate of Medical Sciences), Elena Ivanovna Sycheva (Doctor of Medical Sciences), assistants Sergey Anatolyevich Potapov, Tatyana Vladimirovna Uryumtseva, Larisa Nikolaevna Bakhteeva.The department has a well-equipped diagnostic and treatment base that meets modern requirements, which allows practical classes to be conducted at a high level.Over the last five years alone, 6 monographs and 9 methodological manuals for doctors have been published.More than 50 articles have been published in magazines, scientific collections, and books.2 doctoral and 10 candidate dissertations were defended (supervisors: A.T. Bykov and K.V. Gordon).
