The Department of Philosophy was established in 1963. The first head of the department (1963-1983) was Doctor of Philosophy, Professor P.M. Stepanov. At that time, the problems of religious studies were the priority areas of cathedral scientific research.
From 1983 to 1988, the Department of Philosophy was headed by Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor I.I. Navolotsky. During this period, the teachers of the department were actively engaged in the development of problems of social development and, continuing the accumulated scientific traditions, the study of world religions and religious consciousness.
From 1988 to 2009, the department was headed by Doctor of Philosophy, Professor I.N. Remizov, the author of more than 100 scientific papers on the problems of social ecology, who made a significant contribution to the theory of the ecological sphere of public life. He published monographs “The Patriotic Service of Academician Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky”, “The life, scientific and philosophical legacy of Academician V.I. Vernadsky and Russian youth”, “Socio-ecological Dictionary for Youth”, etc.
From 2009 to 2025, the department was headed by Professor T.A. Kovelina, Doctor of Philosophy, who had previously worked at the department for many years. Her research interests include philosophical and socio-cultural problems of modern medicine. T.A. Kovelina has published more than 100 works in this scientific field, published monographs “Doctor: profession, vocation, culture”, “Image of a doctor in culture”, “Justice as an ideal and principle of healing”. Tatiana Afanasyevna is the chairman of the Commission on humanitarian education, sociological research and educational work of our University, the academic Secretary of the Academic Council, a member of the regional editorial boards. T.A. Kovelina is actively working as the supervisor of PhD theses in philosophical specialties. Over the past 5 years, 7 candidates of science have successfully defended themselves under her leadership, and another paper is being prepared for defense. Edited by T.A. Kovelina has published a number of monographs: “The Ontology of judicial power”, “The civil law sphere as a factor in the sustainable development of Russian statehood (socio-philosophical aspect)”, “Biotechnology as a subject of social philosophy”, “The spiritual potential of modern Russian youth: problems and ways to improve”.
An important moment in the history of the department was June 2010: the department was reorganized and renamed the Department of Philosophy, Psychology and Pedagogy, new disciplines appeared. Young and energetic teachers came to the department.
In September 2024, the Department of Psychology, Pedagogy and Communication was separated from the Department of Philosophy, Psychology and Pedagogy. Since 2025, V.M. Marukhno, Candidate of Law, associate Professor, who has worked at the department for 15 years, has been appointed head of the department. Her research interests include ethical and legal problems of modern medicine. V.M. Marukhno has published more than 60 works in this scientific field. She is the author of 3 textbooks “Fundamentals of legal regulation of relations in the field of healthcare”, “Jurisprudence”, “Fundamentals of civil law”, co-author of the monograph “Sociocultural imperatives of society”. Vasilisa Mikhailovna is a member of the methodological commission for humanities, sociological research, educational and extracurricular activities at our university.
Currently, the Department of Philosophy teaches philosophy, the history of Russia, the foundations of Russian statehood, bioethics, and law. Appropriate programs and methodological complexes have been developed for these courses in accordance with Federal State Educational Standards. In their teaching activities, the teachers of the department use modern innovative technologies and techniques that contribute to the humanization and humanitarization of the educational process at a medical university.
All teachers of the department are actively engaged in research activities. Their interests lie in the field of studying processes.
