Propaedeutics of internal diseases
The Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases is one of the first departments of the Kuban Medical University. It was organized in 1922, two years after the opening of the university. At various times, the department was headed by famous scientists, outstanding professors, who left an indelible mark on the history of medical education and healthcare in Kuban. The first head of the department of diagnostics and private pathology (as the propaedeutic clinic was then called) was a native of Kuban, a graduate of Moscow University, Professor N.N.Nizhibitsky (from 1922 to 1930).He made a significant contribution to the epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of endemic goiter, and developed preventive measures that were included in the program to combat endemic goiter in the Kuban and North Caucasus. The clinic operated on the basis of the Krasnodar District Hospital and did not have the equipment necessary to conduct educational and research work.Teaching was carried out thanks to the enthusiasm and dedication of the first employees. In addition to the manager, the employees were senior assistant G.S.Demyanov.junior assistant A.P.Patrick, and since 1923 P.I.Budarin.
In 1930, the department of diagnostics of internal diseases was headed by a graduate of the Kyiv therapeutic school, Professor V.P.Obraztsova Professor K.M.Rutkevich, who previously headed the hospital clinic. The department operated until 1931, when it was liquidated due to changes in the classical curriculum for teaching clinical disciplines.
The Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases is not just the first meeting with the clinic, but also the basis for all further clinical education of students. It is here that the most important professional skills of examining a patient, clinical thinking are formed, and the foundations of medical ethics and deontology are laid. Therefore, by September 1934, the department (now propaedeutics of internal diseases) was organized again on the basis of the Adyghe Regional Hospital (now the building of the Regional Legislative Assembly). The head of the department was Professor P.I.Budarin, who headed it from 1934 to 1955.Professor P.I.Budarin graduated from the St. Petersburg Military Medical Academy in 1908 and since 1912 he practiced as a therapist in Yekaterinodar, and was a senior resident in the therapeutic department of the 1st City Hospital. The staff of the department made a huge contribution to a cause of national importance - the elimination of malaria in the Kuban. In total, during this period, 70 scientific papers were published, over 30 scientific reports were made and 120 presentations at clinical conferences, and a doctoral dissertation was defended.
During the war years (from 1941 to 1943), the department was evacuated to Yerevan and Tyumen. Many employees went to the front. In 1943, the department, together with the entire institute, returned from evacuation to the destroyed Krasnodar.Since then, the work of the department has not stopped. This marked another period in the history of the department, which continues to the present day.
In 1955-1956, the department was headed by Associate Professor N.D.Sabelnikov, and in 1956-1958 – associate professor D.M.Korobov.
From 1958 to 1968, the department was headed by Professor K.A.Patsevich.People still remember his special delicacy and intelligence.Much attention was paid to improving the pedagogical skills of employees, there was a student circle, 8 candidate dissertations were defended, and a lot of advisory work was carried out, including in the regions of the region. At this time, associate professor S.L. worked at the department.Litvinova, assistants E.N.Agapova, E.A.Yarysh, Yu.V.Ionov, E.V.Multykh, A.P.Kovnatsky, T.G.Bantova, A.A.Fisher, graduate students L.S.Berlizov and I.L.Minsker.After a business trip to China, K.A.Patsevich was the first to actively use and promote Chinese methods of treatment (acupuncture).
From 1968 to 1984, the department was headed by Professor N.V.Klykov.The scientific work of the department was carried out in two directions: problems of gastroenterology and cardiovascular pathology. In total, over the years, more than 200 scientific papers have been published, 1 doctoral and 14 candidate dissertations have been defended. For many years N.V.Klykov was the institute's vice-rector for scientific work. Thanks to the efforts of Nikolai Vasilyevich and his employees, a separate building for the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases was built on the territory of the 1st City Hospital, in which the department is currently located.
Since 1995, a graduate of the Kuban Medical Institute, Professor A.S., was elected head of the department.Adamchik.He was a military doctor, head of the cardiology department, and was involved in scientific activities at all stages of his life.Interest in cardiology and hemostasis predetermined the direction of scientific research at the department. The result of these studies was numerous publications, a monograph and six Ph.D. theses.Under his leadership, the material and clinical base of the department became stronger and expanded, which began to be located in three clinical hospitals: 1st, 3rd city and railway.
Despite the well-known conservatism in teaching the subject, based on centuries of experience and the immutability of basic clinical techniques, the staff of the department strives to optimize the educational process. Thus, more and more time is devoted to practical work assessing the student’s integral ability to identify syndromes and establish simple diagnoses, for which the potential of both clinical departments and the Center for Practical Skills of Kuban State Medical University is used.Current computer test control has been introduced.Methodological manuals have been created for the main sections of the discipline.Students are actively involved in the preparation of clinical conferences and scientific work of the department. All curricula have been revised in accordance with new federal educational standards, lean technologies and distance learning practices are being introduced, and research activity is growing.
