The Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Functional Diagnostics was established in 2011 through the merger of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology (established in February 1999) with the Department of Functional Diagnostics and Clinical Physiology of the FPC and the Faculty (established in February 2007). The head of the department is Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Asya Igorevna Ponomareva.
The need to create a department was dictated by the need of medical and preventive institutions of the city and the region to train qualified doctors – clinical pharmacologists and doctors of functional diagnostics, as well as the formation of clinical and pharmacological thinking among students, ensuring the individualization, effectiveness and safety of pharmacotherapy from the point of view of evidence–based medicine.
Within the framework of the Faculty of Advanced Training and professional retraining of specialists, the department conducts training for doctors in the specialties of functional diagnostics and clinical pharmacology. Interns and clinical residents in related disciplines are trained at the department every year.
Classes are held in accordance with the Federal State Educational Standard for 6th-year students of the medical and pediatric faculties in the discipline “Clinical Pharmacology”, 2nd-year students of the Faculty of Pharmacy in the discipline “Assessment of the functional state of the human body”, 3rd-year students in the discipline “Pharmacoeconomics and Pharmacoepidemiology”, 4th-year students in the discipline “Clinical Pharmacology”.
To ensure the learning process and the development of clinical pharmacology, the staff has prepared more than 20 teaching aids, including a workbook for students of the Faculty of Medicine with individualized assignments, tests, and practical tasks; new lectures and multimedia demonstrations for seminars are constantly being updated and prepared. With the participation of teachers of the department, a manual and a monograph “Perioperative management and anesthesia in obstetrics and gynecology”, “Cardio-respiratory synchronism in assessing the regulatory and adaptive capabilities of the body” were published. Educational and methodological manuals for functional diagnostics doctors have been published, and standards for functional diagnostics of diseases of the cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, and muscular systems have been developed.
The scientific topics of the department cover several areas: “Pharmacoepidemiology”, “Pharmacoeconomics”, “Assessment of heart rate variability against the background of the use of cardiotropic drugs”, “Optimization of antibacterial therapy”. Over the period of his work, more than a hundred scientific articles have been published in leading domestic and foreign journals.
The staff of the department performs a significant amount of medical work, conducts rounds, consultations of patients in complex cases of pharmacotherapy, polypragmasia, participates in consultations, systematically conducts review and examination of medical documentation, monitoring of antibiotic resistance, annual clinical and economic ABC /VEN analysis. The teachers of the department are members of various scientific and practical professional societies, organize conferences, seminars and give lectures to doctors of the city and region.
