Oncology with a course of thoracic surgery

The first oncology course at the Kuban Medical Institute was created in 1975, at the Department of Hospital Surgery, by Associate Professor A.Ya.Nazarov with a base at the Regional Clinical Oncology Dispensary.At that moment, V.M. worked as teachers.Mavrodi, B.Ya.Kaushansky and I.A.Sankin.The scientific priority of the oncology course staff was the development of new treatment methods and the study of results in organ-conserving surgery for laryngeal and rectal cancer.In October 1997, the oncology course was transformed into the Department of Oncology with a course of thoracic surgery of the FPC and teaching staff under the leadership of Professor V.A.Porkhanov.Over the past decade, the department has defended more than 20 candidate and 2 doctoral dissertations, published more than 200 articles in Russian and international journals, published 5 monographs, registered 3 patents and 1 discovery.Priority scientific directions are the development and study of extended and combined operations for malignant neoplasms of the chest and abdominal organs, tracheal surgery, magnetic therapy in the combined treatment of breast and lung cancer.There are four doctors of medical sciences teaching at the department: Professor V.A.Porkhanov, professor N.G. Bakhmutsky, A.P. Selvashchuk, N.V. Porkhanova.Doctors of Medical Sciences: V.N. Bodnya, A.G. Baryshev.Candidates of Medical Sciences: A.D. Gashchenko, I.S. Polyakov, B.M. Samoilik.Over the years of the existence of the course and the department, more than 40 clinical residents and graduate students have been trained, five of whom hold positions of heads of departments in medical institutions of the Krasnodar region.The employees of the department carry out a lot of medical work, among them there is a chief physician, a deputy chief physician, heads of departments, senior residents of departments, and chief freelance specialists of the Department of Health of the Krasnodar Territory.
