On January 3, 1996, at the Kuban State Medical University, with the direct and active participation of V.G. Kosenko, the Department of Psychiatry of the Faculty of Psychiatry and Teaching Staff was opened for the first time for postgraduate training and advanced training of psychiatrists, psychotherapists, forensic psychiatric experts, psychiatrists, narcologists, clinical psychologists, as well as postgraduate studies. Since the establishment of the new department, it has been headed by V.G. Kosenko, who previously had a doctorate in Medicine and significant experience in scientific and practical psychiatry and narcology (1984-2011 – Chief physician of the Krasnodar Regional Clinical Psychiatric Hospital No. 1, 1998-2011. – Chief freelance psychiatrist of the Krasnodar Territory, 2000-2011. – chief freelance psychiatrist of the Ministry of Health in the Southern Federal District: 1984-2011. Chairman of the Board of the Krasnodar Regional, and from 1987 to the present – member of the Board of the Russian Society of Psychiatrists). In 2008, Kuban Psychiatry under the supervision of Professor V.G. Kosenko, the first in Russia, won the competition “For asceticism in the field of mental health, in the nomination “The best region in Russia”: In 2009, V.G. Kosenko was awarded for his significant contribution to improving the mental health of the Kuban population and in connection with the fundamental improvement of the material and technical base of mental institutions in the region. the high title of “Hero of Labor of Kuban”.
The Department of Psychiatry of the FPC and the Faculty has prepared 40 training programs of additional professional education for the NME system. The scientific direction of the department is “Clinical medical-demographic and psycho-social aspects of mental and narcological pathology in rural and urban areas.”
These scientific studies are quite significant in volume and are linked to the actual needs and health characteristics of the region’s population.
The department is located on the basis of SKPB No. 1, in the new medical and diagnostic building. It has two lecture halls equipped with technical training facilities, comfortable classrooms for practical and seminar classes, and a computer room. All clinical departments and divisions of the hospital are used in the educational process, which makes it possible to optimize the educational process at a modern level, taking into account the latest achievements in psychiatry.
The training is conducted according to developed and approved curricula, which include both primary specialization and a wide range of thematic cycles of advanced medical training, both in full-time and distance learning.
Special attention is paid to the training of clinical residents by directly observing their work, reviewing their medical histories and scientific abstracts.
All training programs teach the basics of general and medical psychology and psychotherapy, understanding the personality of a person and the psychology of a patient, and the relationship between a doctor and a patient.
The Department of Psychiatry of the FPC and the Faculty annually holds at least 2 thematic scientific conferences (face-to-face or online) for specialist doctors of the Krasnodar Territory and the Southern Federal District and other regions of Russia (within the framework of the NMO).
