Almost simultaneously with the formation of the Department of Pediatric Surgery, by order of the Ministry of Health of the RSFSR, in 1974, on the basis of four emergency departments (two children’s surgical departments, traumatology-orthopedics and resuscitation), a center for pediatric surgery was created, which was given the status and functions of an interregional institution with the attachment of the Stavropol Territory, Kabardino-Balkaria and Checheno-Ingushetia.Although the formation of the center did not have financial and personnel support and did not provide for the construction of material and technical bases appropriate for the purpose, it played a positive role in providing specialized surgical care to children in the southern region of Russia.
