Therapeutic dentistry

The history of the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry dates back to September 1965, when it was part of the Department of Dentistry of the Kuban Medical Institute. The Red Army, which was organized and led by the founder of the Faculty of Dentistry Viktor Andrianovich Kiselyov, where an associate professor’s course in therapeutic dentistry was organized. Associate Professor Mikhail Markovich Tsarinsky was chosen as the head of this course, doctors P.A. Batievsky and A.E. Ermakova were invited as teachers.
The year 1968 was significant for the life of the institute’s staff, when, on the basis of the associate professor course of the KMI named after The Department of Therapeutic Dentistry was organized by the Red Army. The Order of the Ministry of Health of the RSFSR No. 243 dated August 8, 1968 was signed by Minister V.V. Trofimov. It was headed by Associate Professor M.M. Tsarinsky, who had defended his doctoral thesis on “Materials for the pathogenesis and treatment of pulpitis” at the Council of the Moscow Medical Dental Institute. In this work, Mikhail Markovich proved that inflammation of the dental pulp is not a narrow-minded process that has little to do with the body, but a general disease of the body that causes significant changes in almost all of its organs and systems, especially the nervous and endocrine.
Over the 47-year period of his work at the university, Mikhail Markovich managed to form a large team of like-minded people who develop and deepen his ideas. Under his leadership, 5 doctoral and 40 PhD theses were defended, mainly devoted to the pathology of dental pulp. Tsarinsky has repeatedly presented the results of his research and the work of his staff at All-Union, All-Russian, Transcaucasian, Central Asian congresses and conferences of dentists, and a number of congresses in foreign countries. He is rightfully considered one of the most reputable dentists in the country. He has completed and published 179 scientific papers, prepared a section on caries and its complications for the 3rd edition of the Handbook of Dentistry, wrote and published 4 textbooks, 16 guidelines for doctors and students, prepared 11 collections of scientific papers and conference materials for publication, is the author of 4 inventions and patents. Throughout his life, he conducted community service. He was repeatedly elected a member of the board and the audit commission of the All-Union and All-Russian Societies of Dentists, a member of the editorial board of the journal Dentistry, chairman of the methodological council for the promotion of a healthy lifestyle of the regional organization of the Znanie Society, chairman of the Dissertation Council on Dentistry at the Kuban Medical Academy, Chairman of the Academy’s Bureau of innovators, etc. For more than 20 years, Mikhail Markovich headed the regional dental society, which has been repeatedly recognized as one of the best in the republic. For his achievements in public work, he was awarded the Order of Merit for Dentistry, first class, for the highest achievements in science and public life.
Due to the increase in the admission rate to the faculty to 100 people in 1970, the staff of the department was replenished with teachers I.M. Tatarnikov, L.V. Rogacheva, who had defended their PhD theses by that time, and a little later – V.N. Koshelev and V.V. Suzyaev. These young, energetic and talented people have significantly intensified the activities of the department, expanded its teaching and clinical capabilities. A new generation of teachers: L.S. Ermoshenko, L.V. Romanova and V.A. Artamonov grew out of the graduates of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Kuban Medical Institute. They also actively joined the work of the department. The scientific potential of the department also grew. S.V. Melekhov and targeted graduate students V.V. Zorina and L.V. Kostromina were accepted for postgraduate studies. All of them successfully completed and defended their PhD theses, became teachers of the department. Among the practitioners, A.N. Bondarenko, N.T. Podvarko, and I.A. Ushakova became assistants.
Due to the expansion of the faculty in the 1980s, the staff of the department was replenished with new young staff – graduates of the Kuban Medical Institute: I.O. Kamyshnikova, T.V. Aksenova, who brought a new, lively stream to our activities. Computerization, knowledge testing, new modern methods of treatment and laboratory diagnostics began to be actively introduced into the educational process, medical work and scientific research.
Professor A.N. Bondarenko, associate professors V.V. Suzyaev, T.V. Aksenova, Professor L.A. Skorikova, Associate Professor N.V. Bazhenova, Professor O.V. Tsymbalov, Associate Professor I.K. Sevastyanova, Professor A.V. Arutyunov left the department.
Since 2005, Sergey Vladimirovich Melekhov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, has been elected head of the department by competition. His doctoral dissertation, successfully defended by him in the Dissertation Council of the Moscow Institute of Medical Sciences “Substantiation of therapeutic and preventive measures and prognosis for the development of dental caries complications”, is a continuation of the scientific direction devoted to the study of dental caries complications. Under his leadership, 7 PhD theses were completed and defended, and he is the author of 126 scientific articles.
From 2013 to the present, the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry has been headed by Anatoly Anatolyevich Adamchik, MD, Associate Professor, who graduated from the Moscow Medical Dental Institute in 1995. In 2000, Adamchik A.A. defended his PhD thesis on the topic: “The effectiveness of the use of richlocaine in outpatient dental practice (clinical and experimental study”, in 2018 – his doctoral thesis: “Clinical and experimental substantiation of the diagnosis and treatment of destructive forms of chronic periodontitis.” AA Adamchik is the author of 135 scientific articles, 9 scientific and methodological papers, and the co-author of 18 patents for inventions. Under the supervision of A.A. Adamchik, 2 PhD theses were completed and defended. Currently, 2 graduate students are doing research at the department.
Today, the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry is located at the clinical bases: the Clinic of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Medical Education of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, the Regional Clinical Dental Clinic of the Ministry of Health of the Krasnodar Territory, the Dental Clinic No. 3 of the Ministry of Health of the Krasnodar Territory, Russdent LLC. The department has auditorium No. A344 in the administrative building at 4 Sedina Street. Currently, the teaching staff of the department is represented by: head of the academic department – Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor I.O. Kamyshnikova, associate professors – Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor V.V. Zorina, Ph.D., Associate Professor I.V. Khromtsova, Ph.D., Associate Professor V.V. Tairov, assistants – Ph.D. O.V. Baibakova, Ph.D. T.V. Severina, Ph.D. E.S. Zaparozhskaya-Abramova, Ph.D. V.A. Ivashchenko, Ph.D. Zh.V. Solovyova, Ph.D.M.sc. O.R. Ibragimov, K.D. Kirsh, S.A. Korovashkin, U.A. Shipieva, A.B. Larina.
The staff of the department pays a lot of attention to methodological work aimed at improving the quality of teaching. For this purpose, 8 teaching aids, 8 methodological recommendations have been published, over 2000 test tasks have been prepared for the current and final control of students’ knowledge.
All the lecture material has been digitized, therefore, for the convenience of students and to improve the assimilation of the material, demonstrations are conducted using multimedia equipment. In practical classes, modern methods of disease diagnosis and patient treatment are analyzed and demonstrated. The student reception is conducted using modern imported and domestic materials and preparations.
Agreements on scientific and technical cooperation have been concluded with the world’s leading manufacturers, in particular with the following companies: DMG (Germany), Ivoclar Vivadent (Liechtenstein).
The potential of the staff of the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry is quite large, they all have extensive experience in teaching and practical work and are able to solve the complex tasks of training specialists at the level of today and tomorrow.
