Central Research Laboratory of the Kuban Medical Institute named after The Red Army was created in 1977 by Order No. 589 of the Ministry of Health of the Russian SFSR. The first head (1977-1985) was Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor B.V. Kazarin. The Central Scientific Research Laboratory had 3 departments: sanitary and hygienic (scientific supervisor – Professor Nikolov S.Kh.); experimental – allergological (scientific supervisor – Prof. Ostroumov A.I.); molecular biology (scientific supervisor – prof. Korotyaev A.I.). Each department had its own scientific direction, which developed quite successfully.
In 1986-1997, the Central Scientific Research Laboratory was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor I.V. Nesterova. At this time, new scientific directions and departments of the laboratory appeared. The Department of Clinical and Experimental Immunology studied the problem of immunorehabilitation, immunocorrection and immunodiagnosis of secondary immunodeficiency states in experiments and clinics; the Department of Rural Hygiene (scientific supervisor – prof. Kazarin B.V.) studied the content of pesticides in environmental objects within the Krasnodar region, in the Department of Molecular Biology of Bacteria (scientific supervisor – doctor of medical sciences, prof. Orlov V.G. , Head of the department, candidate of medical sciences, associate professor Krylov V.P.) the topics “Content of DNA and ribosomes in bacteria under conditions of growth”, “R – plasmids of enterobacteria” were researched.
To develop and introduce into practice new methods of organ-preserving and organ-sparing operations for stomach and duodenal ulcers, the 4th department of the Central Scientific Research Laboratory – “Surgical Gastroenterology” – was created. At the premises of this department, the Research Laboratory of Surgical Gastroenterology was created (scientific supervisor – Prof. Onopriev V.I., head of the laboratory, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Kurzanov A.N.), which, together with the village hygiene department, moved to the opened Republican Center for Gastroenterology. Since 1992, two departments have remained in the Central Scientific Research Laboratory – the department of clinical and experimental immunology and the department of molecular biology of bacteria, working under a system of contracts with the Ministry of Health. From 2011 to 2015, the Central Scientific Research Laboratory included a department for the use of magnetic fields in oncology (scientific supervisor – Prof. Bakhmutsky N.G.).
In 1997 – 2019 the Central Scientific Research Laboratory was headed by Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor N.V. Kolesnikova. Employees took part in carrying out research under grants, agreements on creative scientific cooperation, and economic contracts. The Central Scientific Research Laboratory provided constant methodological and advisory assistance in conducting research to employees of the departments of Kuban State Medical University and other universities in Krasnodar.
As part of a mega-grant from the Government of the Russian Federation, the International Center for Regenerative Medicine was created in 2012. The center’s projects are aimed at creating engineered structures of human products.
Equipping the center with advanced technical developments allows it to be an ideal platform for fundamental research into regeneration mechanisms and the development of advanced innovative technologies in the field of regenerative medicine, as well as scientific and educational exchange.
In 2013, an original bioreactor was created to conduct research on human products regeneration; then, unique samples of biological scaffolds of human products, such as the diaphragm, heart, lungs, esophagus, skin, and kidney were created basing on models of small and large laboratory animals. In 2020, an original method was developed for creating a reparative collagen hydrogel based on biopolymers of pig dermis. Currently, work is actively underway to develop scaffolds for peripheral nerves.
Since 2019, the Central Scientific Research Laboratory has been headed by candidate of medical sciences, associate professor Melkonyan K.I.
Currently, the Central Scientific Research Laboratory is a comprehensive research base for carrying out work in the field of fundamental medicine and solving health applied problems. The structure of the Central Research Laboratory includes two divisions: Department of Clinical Experimental Immunology and Molecular Biology Laboratory of Basic Research in the Field of Regenerative Medicine.CSRL projects are carried out within the framework of the state assignment of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, as well as within the framework of grant research by the KNF, RSF and RFBR and contractual work.
Scientific research at the Center for Regenerative Medicine is carried out using modern equipment and capabilities: vivarium, manipulation block, histological block, cell block, molecular genetic laboratory. The Central Research Laboratory carries out research topics within the framework of the state assignment of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation on the “Immunology”, “Regenerative Medicine”, “Innovative Technologies in Medicine” platforms:
Currently, the following employees work at the Central Scientific Research Laboratory: Head of Central Scientific Research Laboratory – Ph.D., Associate Professor Melkonyan K.I., Ch.Researcher – Doctor of Medical Sciences, Prof. Nesterova I.V., Head of the Department – Doctor of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Chudilova G.A., senior researcher – doctor of medical sciences, associate professor Kovaleva S.V., senior researcher – doctor of medical sciences, associate professor Basov A.A., senior researcher – candidate of biological sciences Lomtatidze L.V., researcher – candidate of biological sciences Rusinova T.V., researcher – candidate of medical sciences Popov K.A., researcher – candidate of medical sciences Verevkin A.A., researcher – Storozhuk S.V., junior researcher – Kozmay Y.A., junior researcher – Asyakina A.S., junior researcher – Kozlova A.A.
The results of the research work were published in central and international journals (more than 300 articles), formalized in the form of scientific and methodological recommendations, and 17 patents for inventions were received. Research results are presented at symposia, congresses, and conferences at the All-Russian and international level. The scientific works of the Central Scientific Research Laboratory employees are widely known in our country and abroad.
