DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGICAL ANATOMY
The Department of Pathological Anatomy was founded in October 1920 by the first rector of the Kuban Medical Institute, the famous pathologist Professor Nikolai Fedotovich Melnikov-Razvedenkov.
From 1924 to 1926, the department was headed by Associate Professor Vladimir Vasilyevich Lauer. A.V. Abramov worked as an assistant at the department. In 1926, Professor Georgy Stepanovich Kulesha was elected head of the department. His assistants M.K. Dahl, I.M. Malinin and S.M. Pokrovsky worked with him. In 1928, G.S. Kulesha published a two-volume textbook of pathological anatomy. From 1930 to 1941, the department was headed by Professor Ivan Mikhailovich Malinin.
From 1941 to 1947, the Department of Pathological Anatomy was headed by Sergey Mikhailovich Pokrovsky. During this period, there was one assistant at the department, S.S. Kasabyan. In 1947, Associate Professor Georgy Pavlovich Milash was appointed head of the department. The assistants were S.M. Pokrovsky, V.P. Litzmanenko, K.P. Kosova, Z.I. Barabash.
From 1962 to 1988, the department was headed by Professor Nina Vladimirovna Onopchenko. During these years, associate professors G.P. Milash, V.A. Dobrynin, M.A. Gunko, V.M. Eremin, I.F. Ivanichenko taught at the department; assistants were candidates of medical Sciences N.Y. Belozerov, G.N. Kucheryavy, B.M. Shvyryaev. The staff of the department conducted scientific research in the field of oncomorphology. More than 50 PhD and doctoral dissertations have been completed under the supervision of Professor N.V. Onopchenko.
From 1988 to 2002, Professor Leonid Alexandrovich Faustov was the head of the department. He was the supervisor of one and scientific advisor of three PhD theses. Associate professors M.A. Gunko, V.M. Eremin, I.F. Ivanichenko, L.R. Kurashvili worked at the department; assistants M.M. Baranova, I.S. Bukhmastova, E.A. Vostropyatova, Yu.N. Gubonin, V.I. Kostrub, E.V. Lokhmatikhina, V.L. Makovetskaya, A.B. Pavlova, V.V. Sudakov, V.A. Sychev. In September 2002, by the decision of the Academic Council of the KSMU, the Department of Pathological Anatomy was reorganized by merging with the Department of Forensic Medicine. The joint department was headed by Professor Valery Anatolyevich Porodenko.
In December 2003, an independent department of Pathological Anatomy was re-established. In 2004, Professor Alexander Alexandrovich Slavinsky was elected head of the department. 15 PhD theses were prepared under his supervision. The staff of the department were associate professors G.V. Nikitina, L.R. Kurashvili, assistants B.V. Balachevsky, J.M. Vasilcheva, E.S. Sevostyanova, S.V. Skazkina, senior laboratory assistant A.B. Pavlova. Currently, the department employs associate professors L.M. Chuprinenko (head of the academic department), A.A. Verevkin, V.L. Drushevskaya, A.S. Sotnichenko, assistants M.V. Kristesiashvili, O.F. Sokolova, V.S. Verevkina, senior laboratory assistants V.Y. Deripaska and A.V. Zorina.
The department makes extensive use of computer technology in the educational process. Classrooms are equipped with electronic screens with digital media. All lectures and practical classes are provided with multimedia presentations, and a digital collection of macro- and micro-preparations has been created.
The main research areas of the department are “Digital pathomorphological and immunophenotypic characteristics of intercellular cooperation in inflammation, graft rejection and neoplastic tissue transformation” and “Structural and cytochemical signs of activation of neutrophilic blood leukocytes and cellular infiltration in inflammatory and ischemic tissue damage”. Teachers of the department work in the Laboratory of Fundamental Research in the field of Regenerative Medicine and in the Pathology department of the Clinic of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Medical Education of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
