After the opening of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Kuban State Medical Academy in 1998, it became necessary to create a specialized department to ensure the organization and conduct of the educational process for students in pharmaceutical disciplines. To achieve this key task of establishing and subsequently developing the new faculty, a proposal was made to establish a Department of pharmacy to teach a block of professional and special disciplines.
This proposal was supported by the Academic Council, on the basis of which, on January 29, 1999, an order was issued by the rector of the university to establish the Department of Pharmacy. From this date, the history of the formation and subsequent development of the main specialized department of the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Department of Pharmacy, begins.
Currently, the Department of Pharmacy employs Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor N.M. Bat; Candidates of Pharmaceutical Sciences: Associate Professor N.A. Davitavyan, Associate Professor V.V. Malyavina, A.I. Shevchenko, Yu.V. Khanin, assistants K.V. Gorkovenko, M.V. Gordienko, V.V. Burlakova, A.G. Nechaeva. Since 2025, the head of the Department of Pharmacy is a Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Associate Professor Daria Valeryevna Veselova.
The department’s staff has created a complete package of teaching materials for all professional pharmaceutical disciplines, including various manuals, instructions, recommendations, lecture texts, feedback, demonstration materials reflecting the content and methodology of the educational process.
The department trains students of 1-5 courses of the Faculty of Pharmacy in the disciplines of basic and variable parts in accordance with the Federal State Educational Standard 3++: general pharmaceutical technology, private pharmaceutical technology, methods of pharmacopoeial analysis, general pharmaceutical chemistry, special pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy, pharmacy management and economics, toxicological chemistry, medical and pharmaceutical commodity science, biopharmaceutical, methods of targeted drug design, pharmaceutical information, etc. In addition, as part of the practical training of students of the Faculty of Pharmacy, the department organizes and oversees all types of educational and industrial practices in the specialty “Pharmacy”.
Over the years of its operation, the Department of Pharmacy, together with other departments of KubSMU, has trained more than 1,700 certified pharmacists. Along with this, the Department of Pharmacy is the main and leading educational unit of KubSMU for the training of pharmacists in residency programs in pharmaceutical specialties.
The staff of the department has prepared educational and methodological complexes, including multimedia demonstration materials for lecture courses, to ensure the educational process in all subjects taught. To provide practice bases, long-term bilateral agreements have been concluded with pharmaceutical organizations that provide bases for practical training of students of the Faculty of Pharmacy. The department is actively engaged in additional professional education of pharmaceutical specialists. Pharmacists and pharmacists are trained and trained at a high educational and methodological level in additional professional development and professional retraining programs, including within the framework of the system of continuing professional medical and pharmaceutical education.
Over the years of the department’s existence, 13 dissertations for the degree of doctor and Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences have been completed and defended, more than 200 scientific papers have been published, a significant proportion of which are presented in scientific journals listed by the Higher Attestation Commission of Russia.
A student scientific circle operates on an ongoing basis at the department as part of the student scientific society of KubSMU named after Professor N.P. Pyatnitsky. The results of students’ scientific research are presented annually at scientific and practical conferences of various levels.
The staff of the department is quite actively engaged in social work. In particular, the staff of the department are members of various commissions at the regional and federal levels for the certification of pharmacists and pharmacists, for conducting a special examination procedure for persons who have received pharmaceutical education in foreign countries; they participate in the formation and review of the federal assessment fund of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation for the procedure of primary and primary specialized accreditation of pharmacists.
