The department was opened in March 1982, when the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation decided to organize a faculty of advanced training for doctors at KSMU.Then the department received the name – internal diseases, FPK and PPS.The department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Svetlana Anatolyevna Pavlishchuk, a graduate of the Kuban State Medical Institute (1956).The main educational task of the department was the improvement of general practitioners.The teaching staff was represented by 5 positions, three of the teachers did not have an academic degree.In subsequent years, the scope of educational work expanded and the staff of teachers was improved.Currently, the department has 7.55 full-time teaching staff, four of them are occupied by doctors of medical sciences.The increase in the volume of pedagogical work occurred due to the active participation of the department in the training of local therapists within the framework of the national project “Health”, as well as the assignment of responsibility to the department for the improvement of not only local therapists, but also five more categories of doctors in the specialties: pulmonology, rheumatology, nephrology, gastroenterology and occupational pathology.This required the creation of new educational and methodological complexes.The department has prepared dozens of teaching aids for doctors attending certification cycles of advanced training.Lecture presentations are constantly being improved and updated.Educational equipment was purchased: laptops, multimedia systems.Hundreds of clinical residents and interns have been trained.The scientific work of the department is carried out mainly in two directions in accordance with the basic clinical departments: pulmonology and endocrinology.During the period of work of the department, under the guidance of its employees, 15 candidate and one doctoral dissertations were defended.30 patents for inventions have been received, more than a hundred scientific articles have been published in various publications.Employees of the department carry out extensive medical work in Clinical Hospital No. 1: rounds in base departments, interdepartmental and interhospital consultations;participation in the work of the mortality commission, reviewing patient medical records, including at the request of the regional forensic and medical-social examinations.Every year the department graduates 12–15 clinical interns, 7–10 clinical residents, 20–30 graduates who have completed primary specialization in the specialties of therapy, pulmonology, rheumatology, nephrology, 120–150 local therapists who improve their skills within the framework of the national project “Health,” 50–80 therapists working in hospitals.Every month the department holds meetings of the scientific and medical society of therapists on current problems of internal diseases (chairman of the board of the society, Professor S.A. Pavlishchuk).
